How Do You Follow A Detox Diet?

A healthy diet is perhaps one of the most important elements that contribute to the overall well being of a person. For many decades, millions of diet programs have made their way into the market. Many brave souls have taken a shot at them, and even more people get disappointed with the results. There are a lot of ways by which you can achieve the body and life you desire. However, the road to the best diet is not always a smooth and easy one. But here's an interesting new diet that you can try – the body detox plan. It’s a relatively new diet, but a simple and easy one to follow.

Since our bodies are exposed to the elements everyday, we accumulate toxins without us even knowing about it. Preserved food, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and cholesterol are only some of the things we take in everyday. These things seem to be too good to be bad. Though we enjoy eating them, we may be unaware of the cumulative effects these foods have on our health. Because of that, we need to be detoxified.

If ever you decide to take on this challenge, the first step is to consult a nutritionist or a professional. You should seek an advice from a doctor to ensure that what you will do is detoxification, and not addition of toxins to your body. A medical expert can help you determine what your current medical state is, and what steps you can take to reverse unhealthy conditions and improve your wellness.

The second step is to rigorously follow a detoxification diet. During this period of detoxification, certain foods are avoided. Your meals consist mostly of fresh fruits and green, leafy vegetables. Fats, oil, preservatives and food additives are a big no-no when undergoing the process of detoxification. Also, you should keep off red meat and other high-protein meat products, as well as dairy products because they are hard to digest. For a day or two, eating meat in any form is dropped off from the diet.

Ideal foods that can be part of your diet are as follows: garlic, broccoli, beets, and beans or nuts. Only fresh fruit extracts can be taken as beverages except for grapefruit. And since water is a universal solvent, six to eight glasses of this should be recommended daily. Water is also a major factor in the detoxification process. It flushes out the toxins in the forms of perspiration, urine, or stool.

Although you seem to eat less when detoxifying, you are assured that you will not starve, and ironically, this will even boost your stamina. It is because your intake is limited only to foods that are healthy and are good for the digestive system. There is no need to worry about long-term commitments to the diet, because this detoxification plan is done at least quarterly. It will not be on a day-to-day basis.

Hopefully by now, you may have considered detoxifying as an option for maintaining your health. But it is important to know that diet is not the only thing to remember when it comes to having a healthy lifestyle. Diet should be coupled with exercise, relaxation, and avoidance of harmful vices like smoking and alcoholism. If you religiously stick your plan, you will surely have great results. After all, overall wellness means you are healthy both on the inside and the outside.
