About Kinesiology
Kinesiology is a holistic approach to health care which uses muscle testing
to speak directly with the body and evaluate its response to challenges that the kinesiologist applies to the client during the
treatment.
Kinesiology utilises in part the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) evaluating body function through the relationship between various muscles of
the body and each muscles relationship to specific energetic pathways (channels or meridians) within the body.
If a muscle tests relatively weak in response to a question just asked of it by the
Kinesiologist, then an imbalance has been uncovered and the appropriate correction is used to restore balance.
If the body has been re-balanced sufficiently, then the muscle that previously tested weak
should now test strong.
By using muscle testing, not only can the Kinesiologist determine where imbalances are
occurring and what needs to be done to correct those imbalances, they can also figure out the order that the corrections need to be made. By
establishing a prioritised order of corrections, a domino affect is created with the most causative issues being tackled first allowing for
deeper change to occur in a way that is more ecological (quicker and gentler) for the client.
Kinesiology applies a wide range of powerful yet subtle methods of correction and rebalancing in order to restore the body to a
state of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
It is said that the body doesn’t lie and we can tap into the inherent
truthfulness of the body with Kinesiology. Often times with problematic areas in our lives we are not consciously aware of the causes of our
problems. In these cases asking what the problem is may not always yield the most useful information.
By asking the body directly with muscle testing, the Kinesiologist can identify
the primary causative factors by removing either conscious or unconscious interference by the client. (wether this interference is deliberate
withholding or simply trying to please the therapist)
There are many different systems of Kinesiology today. Some address primarily
emotional imbalances. Other systems are basically structural in approach, working primarily with muscles and bones to create harmony within
the body.
Neural Organisation Technique (N.O.T) is a system of Kinesiology that aims to
create balance and re-organisation of a dis-organised nervous system. And how do we know if we are neurologically disorganised? If you are
experiencing life at a lesser level than you know you could be and indeed should be, you are more than likely disorganised at a neurological
level.
This does not mean that you cannot function. But it does mean that you are not
functioning at your optimal level. N.O.T aims to allow you to function at your most optimum level.
Carl Ferrari's Neural Organisation Technique
Neural organisation is elementary to our survival and normal functioning. The
body is a totally integrated dynamic living thing where every part of it has a design and purpose and every part is affected by every other
part. There is a neural reflex or spontaneous neurological axis for every movement, every position and every function on all levels,
physical, mental and emotional.
And just as all parts are connected on all levels, a change on one level WILL
affect function and ultimately structure on all levels. A sudden emotional event is never an emotional event in isolation. Heartfelt emotions
have a direct affect on the body and certainly our ability to function at a higher mental level.
Likewise, physical trauma brings with it associated less than useful, although
more often than not appropriate at the time, mental and emotional states.
Issues such as nutritional deficiencies and chemical sensitivities can
figuratively speaking “blow” the neurological fuses within our body creating a very dis-organised nervous system and the associated dis-eased
like symptoms.
By working with the neural disorganization directly rather than the specific
symptoms that the client has, not only can lasting relief be achieved, but many other unnoticed problems that the client was largely unaware
of or had just written off due to old age or hereditary (to name just a few of the reasons clients use to justify and explain away their
health concerns) also get sorted out.
While a client may come in due to some “age” related back pain, they will often leave not only with their back pain relieved but
they also feel better emotionally, be less easily angered, their memory returns, they have more energy than they have in years, their
bowels which have been troublesome for years now actually work much to their amazement and so on. While their back pain was their issue it
clearly was not THE issue. The real issue is a disorganised nervous system.
How does N.O.T
work?
Due to an infinite number of survival feedback systems in place, the body is aware of what is
happening within itself at all times, and inherently capable of balancing any problem.
The understanding of the relationships between the body's primary survival systems allows the
Kinesiologist to identify where problems are occurring and to switch on this inherent healing potential. In NOT there are various protocols
that are performed in a specific sequence to completely cover all disorganisation within the body/mind leading to a rebalancing of the primary
survival system circuits.
Each survival system will respond to various challenges in reasonably predictable ways.
Neurological activity occurs in response to these challenges in a very precise order and priority as it switches from one function to another
or combines many different functions. The bottom line here is if a challenge creates a weakening in the muscle we are testing then we have
identified some form of communication breakdown within that specific system.
Survival demands that the body function harmoniously on all levels. There must be a
equilibrium between the structural, chemical / nutritional and neurological / emotional levels.
If all survival systems are functioning in an organised and integrated fashion, we experience
health, happiness and well being. All imbalances within the body are met with a survival response to restore balance. This however is not
always that useful long term.
Often times these problems can get “locked” into the body. It is a bit like a program is installed that now is recognized as
normal, but is anything but normal for the client who has to live with the
problem.
And while we can live with these problems it is more a case of surviving than thriving.
Disorganisation on any level irrespective of the scale, will if not now, eventually severely impact on our health and quality (and quantity)
of life.
We have been talking generally here about neural dis-organisation. So what are some of the
more specific issues that occur due to this disorganisation, that NOT can help with?
Learning and performing tasks becomes very difficult if not impossible
-
Weak work/school performance
-
Sloppy untidy (immature) handwriting
-
Lack of concentration
-
Faulty immune system (recurring illness…always sick…colds you can’t get rid of, allergies and
sensitivities)
-
Faulty digestive system (gut, bowel, absorption and assimilation of nutrients)
-
Emotionally “stuck” states (catastrophising, out of proportion emotional responses)
-
Poor sensory acuity and awareness (appears switched off rather than switched on)
-
Recurring pain (unresponsive to conventional pain relief measures)
-
Retained reflex issues (developmental problems with basic skill development such as eye movements,
crawling, walking, speech difficulties and language delay Below par visual function / processing skills, Attention and Concentrating
Skills, hyperactivity, Behavioural and self esteem issues)
All of the above issues and many more can be helped with Kinesiology and N.O.T. Kinesiology
can seamlessly integrate with any healing modality, making it the perfect supplement any therapeutic program you may be undertaking be that
conventional or alternative.
